January 21, 2021 marks the fourth anniversary of the Women’s March on Washington, which took place in 2017, the day after the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. Despite many of this year’s initiatives being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Women’s March Global, the leading organization of the initiative, is hosting a digital event that will begin on Thursday.

“According to human rights authorities, gender-based violence and inequities in the workplace were just as bad in 2020 as they were 25 years ago,” the Women’s March Global website states.  That being said, the focus of this year’s event will focus on creating a framework for how institutions should continue to work towards gender equity. Those willing to attend the event must RSVP on the organization’s website before January 21.

Virtually unified under the hashtag #WeCount in 2017, Women’s March Global has since grown into an organization of over 100 chapters with a mission to “mobilize and assemble the most impactful actions to defend women’s human rights globally.” Their website now serves as a platform for grassroots campaigns, educational resources, and intersectional activists to strategize how to further address global human rights’ issues.  (savannah camastro)
