Landmarks Lit to Honor Jannick Sinner

In tribute to Jannick Sinner’s epic victory at the Australian Open on January 28, the major landmarks of Florence will be illuminated in the colors of the Italian flag – red, white and green – until the morning of January 29.  The monuments include Ponte Vecchio, the copy of David’s Michelangelo at the Piazzale, the historic gates to the city, and the portico of the Institute of the Innocenti, announced mayor Dario Nardella.

Sinner came from behind to defeat Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.  He is the first athlete of Italian nationality to win one of the Grand Slam tennis tournament since Adriano Panatta and Nicola Pierangeli prior to 2000, and more recently, by Francesca Schiavone and Flavia Pennetta.  None, however, won the Australian Open.
