Major Transportation Strike Affects Florence

transportation strike

Wednesday, July 24, will be disagreeable for inhabitants of Florence and Tuscany. As if the 106 degree Fahrenheit heat (40° Celsius) wasn’t enough, the city’s public transportation will come to a standstill.

To make things a bit more complicated, each means of transportation will go on strike at different times. The tram will not be accessible between noon and 4 pm, buses will not be running from 6 to 10 pm, and trains will not be available from 9 am to 5 pm.  If that weren’t enough, taxi drivers will be on strike as well.

On Friday, July 26, flights will be canceled and service disrupted at the Florence airport, in addition to airports across Italy, between 10 am and 4 pm.  Updates can be found on the Muoversi in Toscana Facebook page.
