‘March for Our Lives’ Florence Protest

Saturday, March 24, 2:30 – 5 pm: MARCH FOR OUR LIVES.

In Florence’s piazza San Lorenzo, join the group Indivisible TUScany and locals in solidarity with over 800 other groups around the world urging the United States Government to urgently address gun violence through legislation in light of recent mass shootings. The march will also focus on denouncing the NRA’s political power in the U.S. and it will symbolize international support of the thousands of students in the U.S. who staged student walk-outs on the 14th at over 3,000 schools.

The march will also provide a space to remember the racially charged killings in Florence from 2011 that killed two Senegalese street vendors, Samb Modou and Diop Morand, to this year’s March 5 shooting which resulted in the death of Idy Diene.

There will be a megaphone available for speakers to voice their opinions and feelings during the rally and signs are encouraged, and can be made on site.  Students from NYU Florence are preparing an English/Italian flyer that will be given out at the March For Our Lives rally. If you post photos from the march on social media, use the hash tags #MarchForOurLives and #BoycottNRA to show support.

To get involved further, join TUScany for the March for Science on Saturday, April 14, from 2:30 – 5 pm in Piazza San Lorenzo, as well. Like last year, this march and rally will be held in solidarity with other world-wide events on this day to raise awareness on environmental issues, climate change, and the risks represented by nuclear weapons abroad and in Italy.  (anna rosin)
