More Taxis Authorized for Florence
A new national decree, announced on August 7, has lifted restrictions on the number of taxi medallions authorized in Florence and other big cities throughout Italy. Upon implementation, an estimated 20% of additional taxis will provide service to customers. Issuing of temporary licenses, not available to current taxi drivers and valid for no longer than a year, has also been approved. This is designed to ease demand during peak periods or special events such as Fashion Week.
This measure was necessary since it has been difficult to call or a cab or find one at a stand ever since the return of tourists in overwhelming numbers after Covid. The bureaucracy necessary to apply for a taxi medallion has also been streamlined as well thanks to the new decree.
