Movies in English at the 2025 ‘Cinema & Women’

The longest-running festival of its kind, the 46th Cinema and Women (Cinema e Donne) continues to focus on notable female actresses, writers and above all, directors. Film screenings will be held at Cinema La Compagnia (via Cavour 50/r) from October 22 – 26, 2025.
Rula Jebreal, Sepideh Farsi, Agustina Macri, Anna Cazenave Cambet, Caroline Deruas Peano, Léna Garrel, Monica Guerritore, Alvia Reale, Francesca Cellini and Laura Samani are among this edition’s international guests.
The program highlights contemporary films by talented women in the original language with Italian subtitles. A few are in English. These include:
The inaugural feature on Wednesday, October 22 (9 pm), Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, a documentary comprised of a series of video interviews between director Sepideh Farsi and Fatma Hassona, a young Palestinian photo reporter who will not survive a bombing raid by Israelis. The world premiere took place at the recent Cannes Film Festival.
Fwends by Sophie Somerville (Australia, 2024), scheduled on Friday, October 24 (5 pm), is the story of an unlikely friendship resulting in long conversations between Em, a young lawyer in a difficult work environment, and Jessie, a former stripper who has just ended a long relationship. The Compagnia’s showing is the film’s Italian premiere.
Sorry Baby by Eva Victor (USA, 2025), which will be shown on Saturday, October 25 (9 pm) and inner of the best screenplay at the Sundance Film Festival. The plot centers on the protagonist, Agnes, who is in denial after being brutally attacked, an issue addressed with tact and humor.
