It’s the epitome of a fairytale dream: A fancy dinner in an elegant garden owned by a princess to the tune of a classical orchestra. New and rising stars in the music and culinary worlds will debut at this beautiful space for the New Generation Festival.
Opening night features a performance of “Le Nozze di Figaro,” directed by Victoria Stevens and conducted by Jonathon Santagada, which will also close out the festival Saturday 31 with a late night DJ set by DJ Harold van Lennep. On Thursday 29, the Filippo Corsini Orchestral Concert will perform “Piano Concerto no. 4 in G Major, Op. 58” by Ludwig van Beethoven with soloist Giuseppe Guarrera and “Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61” by R. Schumann.
“From Blues to Bebop: the Spirit of Harlem” headlines Friday, August 30. Eight of the world’s best young jazz performers — including Dominick Farinacci, Shenel Johns, Patrick Bartley, Jr., Christian Tamburr, Michela Marino Lerman, Mathis Picard, Kyle Poole and Russell Hall — will play music by Harlem musicians, dedicated to the area’s great contribution to music. Orchestra Senzaspine, conducted by Maximilian Fane, will perform a tribute to Steven Feifke, a jazz- and big band pianist.
Every night, save for Friday, there will be an hour long intermission during the performances for a dinner break, and dinners can be booked on the website. Dinner will be served inside the garden with a different menu by a different rising chef each night. There is also an open bar all night.
The dress code for the New Generation Festival is black tie and long dress, or “any beautiful outfit you enjoy wearing.” Tickets vary wildly in prices. Opening night gala dinner is €200 per person, while premium seats, known as Band 1, cost €250. Thankfully, the prices only decrease from there. Band 2 costs €120. There’s a discount for any college student who wishes to see their friends perform: €35 per person for anyone under 35 years of age. (katy rose sparks)
