Non-English Expatriate Groups in Florence
The agenda for Austrian-Italians in Tuscany is to address cross-cultural issues caused by integration into Italian life. The group organizes excursions, events, and guided tours. Men are welcome to join.
Officially incorporated in 1987, the women and men of the Italian-Finnish Cultural Association are members of a greater organization of one million Finns living abroad. Besides meetings, members look forward to the Christmas party at the German Lutheran Church and a mid-summer garden party. To promote Finnish culture, the association organizes public events hosting Finnish artists, writers and musicians in addition to an annual Finnish film festival.
The Japanese group (LAILAC) works to bring Italians to a better understanding of Japanese culture. There is an annual Japanese Festival, courses in cooking, art, and language. All events are done with the support of members and volunteers.
The Swedish group of mothers and fathers, meets monthly to teach their children Swedish through such social activities as games, Easter egg dying, gingerbread making and Christmas decorating. On December 13 the group celebrates the feast day of Santa Lucia with a candlelit songfest.
