Online Talk in English: ‘The Art of Goldsmithing’

Cinemas, museums and concert halls are all closed this week but culture can still be accessed by live streaming, creating an endless possibility of entertainment provided directly to people’s homes.  On November 11, the British Institute of Florence is hosting a talk in English “The Art of Goldsmithing—The Secret of the Early Renaissance” via Zoom starting at 6 pm.  Anyone can join in by clicking on the link.

On Wednesday, clicking a link on the British Institute website will bring viewers to the 6 pm virtual lecture on goldsmithing (oreficeria), a technique that Brunelleschi, Ghiberti, Donatello, Antonio Pollaiuolo, Luca della Robbia, Verrocchio, Ghirlandaio and Botticelli were all trained in at the beginning of their careers, one fundamental to the revival of art that launched the Renaissance.  The Institute is also offering the online course “Art in Modern Florence 1700 – 2000” this month concurrently with outstanding English classes—lessons and conversation—that utilize remote learning with the option of signing up for a single class.
