The Grand Return of Pitti Uomo’s Men’s Fashion

 

The theme of Pitti Uomo 102, “Pitti Island,” celebrates the Summer 2023 collections of featured designers.

Tuesday, 14 – Friday, 17: PITTI IMMAGINE UOMO 102. Fortezza da Basso,  Viale Filippo Strozzi, 1, Florence. Open only to buyers and the press.

Taking to the runway after a two-year hiatus, the energy of men’s style returns to the city of Florence at Pitti Immagine Uomo 102 from June 14 – 17, 2022. The latest fashion trends will premier thanks to shows, exhibitions, and events throughout the four-day-long event. This year’s theme, “Pitti Island,” celebrates the Summer 2023 collections of featured designers.

The Pitti Island supplies insight into the world of the latest trends through five main categories:  Fantastic Classic, Masculine Future, Dynamic Attitude, Superstyling, and Sustainable Style. The  island will host 640 leading brands, with 38% being international. Each brand presenting at the fair (Fortezza da Basso) is also available for viewing on the digital platform Pitti Connect.

The guest designer of the event is Grace Wales Bonner, British designer, and owner of her  menswear brand, Wales Bonner. On June 14, 2022, an undisclosed historic Florentine location will host a parade event for her Spring/summer 2023 collection.

Ann Demeulemeester, the guest of honor, is a Belgian fashion designer and one of the Antwerp  six within the fashion industry. The grand opening is June 15, 2022 at the Stazione Leopolda.

Representing brands that have popularized Italian menswear is the category Fantastic Classic.  The section ties loose threads between tradition and experiment, timeless pieces and modernity.  Labels include Alessandro Gherardi, Barbarulo Napoli 1894, and Roy Rogers.

Masculine Future guides the audience through contemporary menswear over the years. The  event is located on the Attic Floor of the Central Pavilion. Brands include Bonastre, Hannes Roether and Salvatore Santoro.

Dynamic Attitude appeals to outdoor enthusiasts and urban stylists. The category combines  metropolitan materials with an athletic passion through brands such as American Vintage, Juicy  Couture, and Kangol.

Super styling allows you to delve outside your comfort zone, featuring brands that represent  individual creativity, anticipate trends, and value sustainability. Included are Atalasport and The Chino Revived.

Sustainable Style will return for its fifth edition with Pitti Uomo, promoting brands that produce  eco-friendly collections. Of these brands are Curious Grid and Waste Yarn Project. It is set to  take place on the lowest floor of the Central Pavilion.

Special events will dominate this year’s itinerary, including;

  • Soulland, a Copenhagen brand by Silas Oda Adler, will present its Spring/summer 2023 collection at an undisclosed location in a parade-type fashion. The main character of Pitti  Uomo this year, the brand will showcase a special runway show.
  • The historic restaurant, La Loggia del Piazzale Michelangelo, will host more than just a  spectacular view of the city. This year, the Italian Sneaker brand, SUPERGA, will  represent themselves with the help of their newest global ambassador, Emily Ratajowski  (supermodel and actress). Her Spring/Summer 2022 sneaker collaboration represents  Italian Style with her flair.

A collaboration with the department store, Rinascente, is on this year’s itinerary. In honor of Pitti Island, Rinascente will host an exhibit on brand events and displays such as the the presentation of beachwear brand Mc2 Saint an

  • Gucci Garden will present its newest edition, a cafe and cocktail bar entitled Giardino 25,  located in Piazza Della Signoria, 37. The event will occur on Thursday, June 16, by invite  only.

Special events will occur at the Fortezza da Basso throughout June, presenting the latest trends in  men’s fashion. Some of the brands celebrated at the Fortezza include:

  • The first Italian denim company, Roy Rogers, celebrates its 70th anniversary with a mini movie.
  • FILA returns with an iconic collection representing their core tradition, fashion on and off the field.

International presence at the Fortezza returns, amplifying a Ukrainian presence this year. Pitti  Uomo will reserve a particular section of the event for Ukrainian designers set to exhibit their  collections at the Fortezza. (gioia guarino)
