Strike to Interrupt Bus & Tram Schedule
A 24-hour national general strike will impact bus and tram services in Florence on Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20.
The strikes are scheduled to take place across Italy from 9 pm on Thursday until the same time on Friday evening. The Autolinee Toscane bus lines will therefore be impacted by delays and cancellations on its urban services across Tuscany. More specific details will be available closer to the time.
Autolinee Toscane bus services between 4:15 and 8:14 am, and from 12.30 to 2:29 pm are still guaranteed, and Florentine tram services will still run from 6:30 until 9:30 am, and between 5 and 8 pm. The regularity of bus and tram services outside of the above time slots, as well as staff availability in ticket offices, are however uncertain and depend on strike participation. For more information on interruptions to bus services, check the autolinee toscane website.
Strikes will also affect the normal operations of Florence airport, however all state, humanitarian aid, and emergency flights are still guaranteed. This also applies to the transport of medicines, perishable goods, live animals, and goods classified as essential. For further flight information, the Florence airport website is regularly kept up to date.
The strike was called by the USB, CUB, and SGB trade unions and is planned to oppose the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, to the war, and to an increase in military spending. Strikers are also taking part to campaign for wage increases, reduction in working hours, adjustment of safety and health protection in the workplace, and for the blocking of privatizations for public transport.
