This summer, Villa La Pietra will once again come alive with music, dance, film, theater, and other cultural events as New York University Florence celebrates the 20th edition of its annual arts festival, The Season. Set throughout the stunning 37-acre La Pietra campus, performances and events will take place in the gardens, Limonaia, and outdoor theater spaces.
This year’s program includes original theater productions from New York, classical and jazz performances, site-specific dance pieces, poetry readings, film screenings ranging from award-winning works to projects still in development, and a special art installation.
Goodbye, Democracy?

Goodbye, Democracy? is a discussion led by political scientist Lorenzo De Sio that explores the current challenges facing democracies around the world, including populism, political division, and the relationship between citizens and modern political systems.
What Light Reveals
June 22 2026 / 6 pm / VILLA SASSETTI
What Light Reveals combines poetry and film through original creative works that explore themes of memory, identity, and human connection. The event brings together readings and screenings designed to reflect on how light, both literally and symbolically, can shape the way people see the world and each other. Poet Chloe Miller will read from her recent book Perforated and award-winning visual artist Vito Adriaensens will present a poetry film triptych shot entirely on super 8mm in the garden of Villa La Pietra.
From the Ground Up and Jazz Concert

From the Ground Up and Jazz Concert brings together storytelling, community perspectives, and live jazz music in a program focused on culture, creativity, and collaboration. The event combines discussion and performance, highlighting how art and music can connect people and inspire conversation.
Annunciation
June 23 / 8 pm / LIMONAIA
A world premiere theater production by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Rajiv Joseph, performed by Continuum Co. actors Maggie Siff and Stephen Stocking. Continuing the story introduced last year, the work revisits the biblical account of Mary’s encounter with the Angel, offering a thoughtful and contemporary perspective on a familiar story.
Mr. Pourceaugnac
June 25 / 9 pm / TEATRINO
The NYU Tisch Commedia dell’Arte troupe presents a new interpretation of a classic comedy by Molière. Known for its lively performances and traditional theatrical style, the production brings a fresh approach to one of the playwright’s most humorous works.
Alli Horti
June 29 / 7 pm / VILLA LA PIETRA GARDENS
Alli Horti will be performed by a young group guided by II Palmerino and granted by Calliope Arts foundation. The project celebrates the collections and lasting influence of La Pietra’s inspirational figure, Hortense Mitchell Acton, along with five other women tied to the Villa’s history. (Maquinna Peglow)
