Museo del Novecento of 20th Century Art

DOMENICA METROPOLITANA is today, when the city’s museums coordinate to give special access to Florentine residents. All the museums in the Civic Museums of Florence system, which include the Palazzo Vecchio (open 9 am – 11 pm), Santa Maria Novella (12 noon – 6:30 pm) and the Museo Novecento of 20th Century Art (11 am – 8 pm), as well as the Palazzo Medici Riccardi (9 am – 7 pm), will have free entry for residents for the day. Other historical landmarks with free admission for city residents comprise the Brancacci Chapel (1 – 5 pm), the Bardini museum 11 am – 5 pm), Forte Belvedere (11 am – 8 pm), the San Niccolò tower (5 – 8 pm) and Palazzo Vecchio’s Arnolfo Tower (9 am – 9 pm). A Florence residence card is necessary to secure this benefit.

GIOTTO, the organization that is sponsoring this month’s event, is also recommending a series of special tours and exhibitions occurring across the city. The work of two contemporary artists, Massimo Listri and Davide Rivalta, are showing at the Forte Belvedere, while the Torre San Niccolò has reopened for the summer. Additionally, the Palazzo Strozzi will be hosting a special guided tour called Verrocchio, da Vinci’s Teacher, exploring some of the artists greatest works, at 11:30 am. Tickets to the exhibition will be discounted, while the guided tour is free of charge, pending a reservation of one of the 15 spots.
