Sunrise Concert in Piazza Santissima Annunziata

Although the 2020 Musart Festival has been postponed to the summer of 2021 in its usual setting, Piazza Santissima Annunizata, one event will still take place this week.   Rita Marcotulli will perform her scheduled “sunrise concert” in a courtyard of the Istituto degli Innocenti in the square starting at 4:45 am on Saturday, July 25.

This internationally renowned pianist will interpret her own original compositions, which display a variety of artistic influences:  African, Brazilian and Indian music, the Italian jazz rhythms of the late Neapolitan musician Pino Daniele in addition to pieces inspired by music soundtracks by filmmakers as diverse as Jean Renoir, Francois Truffaut and Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Marcotulli studied at the prestigious Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, and has played, among others, with Chet Baker, Joe Lovano, Enrico Rava and Kenny Wheeler.  She won the Davide di Donatello (Italy’s Academy Award) for the sound track of “Basilicata Coast to Coast” in 2011.
