The 2024 Florence Dance Festival Grand Finale: the Lewis Majors Projects
The Florence Dance Festival welcomes the return of the Lewis Major Projects on Tuesday, July 23 with a dance performance that will showcase the collaboration between Australian choreographer-director Lewis Major and English choreographer Russell Maliphant OBE. Taking the stage of the Cloister of Santa Maria Novella at 9:30 pm, the dancers will perform five uniquely captivating pieces that explore different rhythms, meanings, and poetic possibilities. A central theme of the performance is the duality and harmony of the connection between internal and external worlds.
Lewis Major is an award-winning regional choreographer as well as a director and creative entrepreneur with an extensive background in contemporary dance theater. For over a decade he has advanced his career in Europe, guided by an audience-focused approach that seeks to foster a global perspective. He has created 17 total works and presented them on six continents to great critical and commercial success. Major’s collaboration with Russell Maliphant, one of Britain’s leading creators of modern dance, allows him to develop intriguing, fresh choreographies. (Ayana Wilmot)
