ONLINE LECTURE IN ENGLISH:  “The Acton-Mitchell Family at Villa La Pietra: Writing, Gardening and Collecting” is the focus of the weekly Wednesday evening British Institute series, scheduled for April 14 at 6 pm.  The talk will be presented by Larry Wolff and Perri Klass, co-directors, NYU Florence at Villa La Pietra; Francesca Baldry, Collection Manager, Villa La Pietra; and Nicholas Dakin-Elliot, Horticultural Associate, Villa La Pietra.

Villa La Pietra, the villa in the hills overlooking Florence was owned by the Capponi family for 300 years until it was inhabited by Arthur Acton and his American wife Hortense Mitchell in 1903.  Their son, the writer Sir Harold Acton (1904 – 1994), developed it as an important center for Anglo-American-Florentine intellectual life, art collecting, and horticultural design, leaving the property in his will to New York University.  The team from NYU, which established its Florence program in the Villa 20 years ago, will tell story of this special place.
