The Cutting Edge of Men’s Fashion: Pitti Uomo 107

January 14 – 17, 2025: PITTI UOMO 107. Fortezza da Basso, Florence. Open daily 9 am to 6 pm; last day, 9 am to 4 pm.  Entrance restricted to buyers and the press.

Florence is always home to cultured and well-dressed individuals, but in the second week of January, the city reflects a new energy. People walk the streets in their best and most contemporary clothes, aspiring to blend in with the models and designers of Pitti Uomo, Florence’s Men’s Fashion Week. Suddenly the influence of avantgarde, haute couture and  other unconventional styles is seen everywhere. Florence becomes a space to appreciate and absorb fashion more than ever. One of the most revered events for global menswear: Pitti Immagine, winter edition, number 107 is coming to town.

This season the theme is Fire. Director Agostino Poletto describes that the theme represents the passionate nature of fashion, and that like fire, it “ brings people together, warming both body and soul, drawing attention and pointing the way. It serves to entertain, amaze, inspire, melt old ideas and habits, and forge new ones.”  Following this theme, Piazzale Michelangelo will be the setting for a digital bonfire, where flames and lettering will be projected via video.

Back at the Fortezza, with five different sections and two guest designers, Satoshi Kuwata and MM6 Maison Margiela, this edition promises to be a source of inspiration for attendees.

The showcase of over 786 brands, almost half being international, will highlight the Autumn and Winter 2025 collections.  All of the brands participating in the event will also present on the digital platform Pitti Connect.

Each section of Pitti Uomo will present a unique interpretation of the season’s attire for men. They are: Fantastic Classic, Futuro Maschile, Dynamic Attitude, Superstyling and I Go Out. Fantastic Classic is designed for visitors who appreciate the garments of the classic Italian gentleman, with Made in Italy companies, well-tailored and well-sourced materials and silhouettes that reflect contemporary aesthetics. Next, Futuro Maschile, will feature pieces that explore a vision for the future of menswear with handmade accessories, tailored clothes, and curated knitwear. The third, Dynamic Attitude, will showcase designs that are functional for both sporty and street-wear environments. Superstyling, the fourth section will break from gender norms, and seasonal expectations, with clothes that reflect innovation and creativity. Lastly, I Go Out, the final part of the trade show, is filled with styles that cater towards the outdoors type, coming style, performance, and functionality, while being environmentally conscious. This section will include the Knees Up Running Space, which is meant to foster community within the contemporary running scene and will function as a cafe, bar, shop, and a place for gathering.

Pitti Uomo will also spotlight the talent of two designers who are big names of the fashion industry. One is Satoshi Kuwata, founder and creative director of Setchu, a fashion brand that blends Japanese and Western fashions. This will be a special chance to see the independent designer’s first fashion show in Florence. The second guest will be MM6 Maison Margiela, an avantgarde sister line to the main Margiela label, meant to appeal to a wider audience of fashion lovers.

As Pitti Uomo 107 unfolds, it will not only showcase the cutting-edge of menswear but also set the stage for the future of fashion, where creativity, innovation, and style converge in exciting new ways. (Piper Begler)
