The Italian Debut of Pianist Eric Lu at Teatro della Pergola

Pianist Eric Liu

Winner of the 2025 International Chopin Competition, pianist Eric Liu will make his Italian debut with the “Amici della Musica” at a recital on November 1 (Teatro della Pergola, 4 pm) in a program entirely dedicated to the Polish composer.

Lu will interpret Chopin’s Nocturne op. 27, n. 1, characterized by a change of rhythm; one of his later masterpieces, Barcarola in F sharp major, op. 60; Mazukas (a musical style based on Polish folk dances) op. 56 for solo piano; the intricate Polonaise-Fantaisie in A flat major, op. 61; the Polonaise in B flat major, op. 71, no. 2, which was published after his death;  and Sonata n. 2, op. 35, famous for its third movement, “the Death March.”  The latter reflects Chopin’s gloomy mood after ending his engagement to Maria Wodzinska.

A native of Massachusetts, Lu also won the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018, and at age 27, has already performed with the most important orchestras and on stages across the globe.
