The Orchestra della Toscana in a Streamed Performance of Vivaldi & Mahler

Conductor Fabio Luisi

Friday, November 27:  an Orchestra della Toscana concert conducted by Fabio Luisi will be streamed from Florence’s Teatro Verdi.  9 pm.  Lasting an hour-and-a-half without intermission, the event is free and can be accessed through the Orchestra della Toscana You Tube channel and Facebook page.

The program, which lasts an hour and a half without intermission, comprises Antonio Vivaldi’s Symphony in B minor “To the Holy Sepulchre” and Mahler’s  Symphony No. 4, presented in its 2007 chamber version.  Vivaldi’s piece, which focuses on the Passion of Christ, is followed by Mahler’s musical vision of the joys of eternal life after death.  The Mahler composition centers on the song “The Heavenly Life,” which will be interpreted by soprano Sarah Wegener.

Luisi will be making his debut on the podium of Teatro Verdi without a live audience.  A guest artist at the most prestigious orchestras in the world, Luisi is also the artistic director of the Zurich Opera House (which has recently dedicated musical retrospectives to composer Giuseppe Verdi) and the Dallas Opera House.  He is also the principal conductor of the Danish National Symphony.  (rosanna cirigliano)
