Tropos Club To Be a Public Sports Center

 

The Tropos Health Club, near Piazza Beccari, will be reopening to the general public with an indoor gym, pool, and spa. The wellness center which was founded as a private company in 1991 is now under the proprietorship of the City of Florence. There was a long legal battle with the old management after the prior owner of the facility’s building, Livio Alias, died 16 years ago. In his will, Alias left the property to the Florentine government, stating that after Tropos’ lease expired, he wanted the sports facility to be made accessible to the entire community for a minimum of 60 years. Thanks to Alias, residents and visitors alike can look forward to enjoying the center’s many modern amenities. (Francesca Negri)
