A Solidarity Procession for Women Victims of Violence

Following the allegation of the rape of two American students, a Sept. 16 candlelight procession will show solidarity for the girls as well as other women who have been victims of violence and live in fear. Scheduled to start at 8:30 pm from Piazzale Michelangelo, the procession will wind down the hill and into the streets of downtown Florence.

The organizers would like to welcome residents and visitors alike to take part with banners and messages. The aim is to raise consciousness and to get one vital message across, “rape culture exists everywhere.”  A spokesperson for the initiative said, “Women gain their freedom every day by fighting against violence inside the home and outside of it. It is them who make the streets safe.”
