Lego-Size Duomo in the Cathedral Museum

Giacinto Consiglio, creator of the Lego Duomo project

A crowd of around 100 people, coming from all over the world, gathered to create the first Lego model of the Duomo Cathederal.

Available to the public to view for free from until November 9 in the Cathedral (Opera del Duomo) Museum, the entire model had been designed electronically by a 17-year-old student from Puglia, Giacinto Consiglio.

A lover of architecture and passionate about Lego, Giacinto was particularly impressed with the Duomo’s architecture during a visit to Florence in 2016. Using the software programme, Lego Designer, he designed what has now been placed together.

The student, Toscana Briskc and other Lego collectors from as far away as the United States built Giacinto’s idea on October 21 in the Duomo Museum, which was available for the public to watch and participate if interested. The process required much time, with the use of 20.000 Lego pieces of 400 different shapes and 10 different colours (the dimensions of the miniature complex are 50 cm x 60 and 65 cm tall).

Gianluca Cannalire, vice president of the association ItLug and coordinator of ToscanaBricks, explained the difficulty of the job. Having used the Lego pieces, which are no longer being manufactured, it has been vital to find as many Adult Fan of Lego collectors as possible in order to donate their pieces for the completion of the project.

The model will also be featuring in the Bricks in Florence Festival held on November 11 and 12 at the Obi Hall.
