Tuscan Landscapes as Works of Art at NYU

dentro la cornice copyMay 19: Within the Frame: Villa La Pietra and the Tuscan Landscape Interpreted as a Work of Art.  3:30 – 5:30 pm. Free admission.

To mark the International Day of Museums ICOM 2016, New York University at Villa La Pietra is organizing an educational tour with workshops on the grounds on the theme Museums and Cultural Landscapes.

The event is an opportunity to experience the evolution of the NYU grounds from a farm to a setting for a formal garden. This Italian garden is naturally integrated into the Tuscan hillsides, preserving a traditional naturalistic equilibrium, one often depicted in art over the centuries.  Visitors can observe privileged points of view, and will come to understand the borrowed landscape, tracing the history of the place and analyzing natural characteristics and later intervention.

Docents include Francesca Baldry is the Collection Manager of the Acton Collection, Villa La Pietra New York University and Nick Dakin-Elliot, who is responsible for the garden and grounds of Villa La Pietra.
