The Florence Dance Festival 2020, Act 2 at Teatro La Compagnia

A scene from “Pulcinella, One of Us” staged by The Nuovo BallettO di ToscanA

Florence’s Teatro della Compagnia (via Cavour 50/r, 8:30 pm nightly) is hosting Act 2 of the late summer edition of the Florence Dance Festival. Two Tuscan companies—Sosta Palmizi and the Anghiari Dance Hub—will present contemporary choreographies on September 10.  The first work, entitled “Monsoon” is a reflection on the natural forces of air, water and wind especially in the light of global warming.  Dancers move to the rhythms of a Japanese drum and electronic music in a piece that is a reflection on humankind and climate change.  This is followed by “Argentea/Project on Time #3,” which presents the evolution of the concept of space-time from that present in mathematics and music to an ideal state of being.

The Nuovo BallettO di ToscanA directed by Cristina Bozzolini will stage “Pulcinella, One of Us” to the music of Igor Stravinsky and Gian Battista Pergolizzi on September 12.  Eleven dancers will interpret the choreography of Arianna Benedetti that uses evocative lighting in a replay of the iconic Italian clown figure Pulcinella, one rooted in popular Italian stage comedy and traditional Neapolitan puppet shows from the 17th century onwards.  Children up to age 10 accompanied by an adult can enjoy the performance for free.   (rosanna cirigliano)
