Free Florence Museums for Festa della Toscana

There will be a number of free Florence museums for the Festa della Toscana weekend on November 30 as well as on  the following day, December 1, 2019.  November 30 is known as the Festa della Toscana to commemorate the abolishment of the death penalty in Tuscany on that date — the first European state to do so — on November 30, 1786.

There will be free admission to the Pitti Palace museums (including the Palatine Gallery, the Fashion Museum and the Modern Art Gallery) and the Boboli Gardens on Saturday, November 30.  There will be cost-free entrance to Uffizi Gallery, the Pitti Palace museums and the Boboli Gardens on Sunday, December 1.

Residents of the greater Florence metropolitan area will be granted access to the following free Florence museums that are run by the municipality on December 1: Palazzo Vecchio (9am – 7 pm); the Arnolfo tower of Palazzo Vecchio (10 am – 5 pm): Santa Maria Novella (1 – 5:30 pm); the Salvatore Romano Antiquities Foundation (1 – 5 pm); the Novecento Museum of 20th Century Art (11 am – 7 pm); the Brancacci Chapel (1 – 5 pm); and Palazzo Medici Riccardi (9 am – 7 pm).  (rosanna cirigliano)
