Health & Herbs, April

IMG_6080-copy-667x444In April, spring cleaning does not only refer to your house or office. Health tips for this month focus on refining your inner self.

Reduce fatigue:  a simple Bach Flower remedy will do the trick. Bach Flower solutions, developed by Edward Bach in the 1930s, are 50:50 water to brandy mixed with a small amount of flower material. According to Dr. Russo, drinking Bach’s Olive helps manage our vital energies, rendering us less lethargic. Another suggestion is to take Peruvian Maca root (1 heaping tbsp. daily or 2 capsules daily).

Stop allergies: As the pollination and wind increase during spring, so do our allergies. Dr. Russo suggests taking 50-60 droplets of Blackcurrant diluted in water, 2-3 times daily. This fruit has an extraordinarily high Vitamin C content as well as favorable levels of potassium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamin B5. For allergy-provoked sore throats, a Bismuth remedy is advised.

Dr. Fernando Russo is the owner of the Erboristeria Antica San Simone (via Ghibellina 190/r). She studied both conventional and homeopathic medicine and has an extensive knowledge of herbs and aromatherapy.  Dr. Russo graciously shares her knowledge through private consultations at her shop, which also sells teas, candles, incense, soaps and much more.  For additional information, visit
