Indie & International Screenings at the Firenze Film Festival

A scene from “On My Mind”

The Firenze Film Festival will return to the Astra Cinema in piazza Beccaria on September 22 for its sixth year of celebrating the power of independent cinema in the heart of Florence. Featuring a selection of 11 films and documentaries, the Festival unites a community of like-minded film lovers from all over the world.  The showings are in the original language with English and Italian subtitles.

The films will be screened from 6 pm to 9:15 pm, with a short break at 7:30 pm. The award ceremony will immediately follow. The competition includes 11 categories: Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Feature Documentary, Best Short Documentary, Best Experimental, Best Student Film, Best Director, Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Producer, and Best Screenplay.

The Festival was created as a space for people to watch rarely screened indie films and as an opportunity to meet other talented members of the industry. This year’s screening program is composed of many previously-awarded short films of various genres from established and up-and-coming filmmakers. Though they are short in length, these stories will stay with the audience far after leaving the cinema.

All films have English and Italian subtitles. Entrance is free and doors open at 5:30 pm on the 22nd.  (Abigail Dawson)
