October’s Ceramics Fair: ‘Fiera della Ceramica’ in SS Annunziata

Piazza SS Annunziata

With the goal of bringing together craftspeople and the public, the Fiera della Ceramica (Ceramics Fair) will be hosted by Piazza SS Annunziata on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 – 7 from 9 am to 7 pm.

The event is part of an expanded monthly “Fierucola,” where Tuscan farmers normally display and sell their seasonal organic produce, dairy cheeses and home baked breads. Along with bounty for the table, the fair offers visitors handcrafted works made by 90 ceramic artists from Italy, Spain, England, Japan, United States, Scotland, Holland, Israel, France, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Austria, Germany and Poland.  Their mediums include raku, stoneware, majolica and porcelain.

Providing a burst of color to decorate a quintessential Renaissance square that can be compared to Shaker furniture for cleanness of design, SS Annunziata, the exhibitor’s creations include plates, vases, jugs, mugs, teapots, design objects for the home, sculptures, jewelry, and other decorative items.

In the search for the perfect dish, there will be on-site clay workshops and pottery making classes for everyone under the square’s arches.

For the occasion, via dei Servi, which leads to Piazza SS Annunziata, will turn into a “pottery street” dedicated to the craftsmanship of ceramics organized by the European Institute of Design in Florence. Along the road, 15 artists will exhibit some of their major works. Four musicians from the School of Music in Fiesole will also perform up and down via dei Servi to commence the event on Saturday at 10 am.  (rosanna cirigliano & beatrice paolucci)
