The Debut of Tram T1

Tram T1 — which is the combination of the tram 1 line and the new extension (formerly tram line 3) to Careggi Hospital will start running on July 16 at 5:38 am from the De André stop in Scandicci and beginning at 6:24 am from Careggi Hospital.

To celebrate the inauguration, Florence mayor Dario Nardella has announced that everyone will be entitled to ride the tram free of charge for next two weeks.

The trip lasts 40 minutes from each end of the T1 line covering a total distance of 11.5 kilometers (7mi) with 26 stops along the way.  An estimated 500 trips will be made each day with an average waiting time for boarding of slightly over four minutes.  It is estimated that 9,300 fewer cars will hit the road due to the augmented tram service and 20 million people yearly are expected to take the tram.

Major changes in existing bus lines will take place starting on July 21 — see new bus map.

Construction is continuing on tram line 2 to viale Redi, Novoli and the Florence airport at Peretola, which will not be completed before Christmas.
