Trump Protest at Florence’s U.S. Consulate

An estimated 150 American citizens, including students from local university campuses as well as a few Italians, picketed for two hours on January 21 outside Florence’s U.S. Consulate on Lungarno Vespucci as a protest against the newly-inaugurated administration headed by President Donald Trump.

Organized by the local chapter of U.S. Citizens against the War (founded in 1991), the messages expressed were in favor of women’s rights; eco sustainable and environmental protection policies; against racial and religious discrimination and in support of cultural diversity.

The demonstrators said that Trump, elected with 60,000,000 votes from a population of 320,000,000 does not represent the American people.  Among the signs: “Protect Human Rights,” and one held by a young Italian man, “Meglio 100 giorni da pecora che un giorno con Trump: NO al fascismo in America” (“Better 100 days a sheep than a day with Trump: NO to fascism in America”).
