‘Volare’ – A Flight Festival for Children at the Cascine

The new event focussed on flying, “Volare,” is coming to Florence for the first time, from Friday, May 13 to Sunday, May 15 at the Ultravox Firenze summer space, Prato delle Cornacchie in the Parco delle Cascine. Hours: Friday: 5 – 10 pm, Saturday: 10 am – midnight, Sunday: 10 am – 10 pm. Free entrance.

Many iconic figures and characters—like Icarus to Leonardo da Vinci and Jules Verne to Frank Herbert—have all been involved with flying and the theme has captivated young and old for centuries. “Volare” directly translates into flying and is dedicated to all those who want to touch the sky.

The festival program offers the possibility to take a ride in hot air balloons (between 6:30 – 10 pm), make and fly kites, visit photograph exhibitions of planes, construct and fly model aircrafts, and attend workshops organized by the Leonardo da Vinci museum which are hosted on site. Visitors to the festival can also board the planes of Aeroclub Firenze for a flight over the city of Florence (by reservation only) or try a simulated flight, and meet pilots. Guests can visit the nearby Museum of the Military Aviation Academy.

There is entertainment, an area for children, live music and quality catering. For more information, visit www.ultravoxfirenze.it  (ted de veer)
