Three Days of ‘Firenze Rocks’ at the Cascine

Eddie Vedder

Rock, pop, and metal music come blasting into Florence this summer with over a month of head-banging worthy good concerts.

From June to July at the Visarno Arena and Hippodrome in the Park Cascine (just a little over a mile from the center of town) three different music festivals – Firenze Rocks, Firenze Summer Festival, and Decibel Open Air – will leave the town humming with acts like Aerosmith, Arcade Fire, and The XX.

Firenze Rocks, from Friday, June 23 until Sunday the 25th, feels like other major European music festivals with three days of nonstop music. The Friday schedule includes English alt-rock bands Deaf Havana and Placebo, in addition to Aerosmith – one of the best selling American bands of all time fronted by Steven Tyler, the embodiment of late 70s glam rock.

The Saturday line-up hosts a set from Glen Hansard. The raspy voiced musician wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed 2007 indie film Once that became a Broadway sensation, winning Best Musical at the Tony Awards in 2012.

Later on in the day, rock&roll legend and Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder is slated to perform.

The event wraps up on June 25 with Prophets of Rage, an American rap rock super-group consisting three members of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. The headliner of the final evening is heavy metal band System of a Down, fronted by lead singer and metal icon Serj Tankian. Tickets range from €55 to €70.  (tessa lucia debole)
